A Brewerkz Sort of Weekend

This weekend was definitely the most low-key weekend I’ve had since being in Singapore, which I happily accepted.  It’s hard not getting overwhelmed with wanting to see everything and make sure to check off everything from those “best things to do in Singapore” or “things you must do before leaving Singapore” lists.  While 6 months seems like plenty of time to get things done, it also goes by SO quickly, as I’ve learned from previous rotations.  I spent the last 6 months exploring the Midwest (shout out to my Indy friends) and I feel as if there is so much more I could have done!

This weekend started out with our gang of three having a few things on our list to check off.  While some of them didn’t make our final itinerary, I feel like we had a great weekend anyway!

Friday started with sushi dinner in Tampines followed later with a trip to Clark Quay (pronounced Clark Key).  Clark Quay is the place to be for nightlife in Singapore, or at least one of the places to be.  The area is right along the river and is host to tons of restaurants, bars, and clubs.  As we exited the MRT station, we were surrounded by a ton of other people of all ages who came to enjoy a night out as well.  We made our way to Brewerkz, technically just across the river from Clark Quay in Riverside Point.  We sat outside, as it’s always warm enough to sit out by the water, and each started off with a sample of their local brews.

Sampler

My sampler included Hopback, Black Raspberry, I.P.A., and their Wheat Beer.  While the latter was not my top choice, the Hopback and I.P.A. stole the show with the Black Raspberry just behind.  (Let’s just say Three Wise Men Brewery in Indianapolis has the BEST blackberry wheat beer and I have yet to find a decent fruity competitor).

PubGearUSA.com, Brewerkz, and Clown Shoes

Hoppy Feet = Happy girl!

Next up came a basket of sweet potato fries because let’s be honest here, who doesn’t love sweet potato fries and craft beer?  To go along with the treat I opted for none other than Clown Shoe’s Hoppy Feet Black I.P.A. – brewed and bottled by Mercury Brewing in Ipswich, MA!  Craft beer has become something near and dear to my heart.  It’s a great connecting point between people and an awesome way to get local when you find yourself in a new area.  Finding Clown Shoe’s in Singapore was even more special because they work with  my good friend over at PubGearUSA.com!  Talk about making connections from around the world!

In the words of Mr. PubGearUSA himself – “celebrating what brings us together”.

Alright back to the weekend- Saturday included lunch at Brewerkz followed by a little shopping around ION mall on Orchard Rd.  Though no macarons from Lauderee for this crew (their delicious cookies are all made with almonds).  And the day finished off with an evening at Ethans pad with cards and bananagrams (the game that all the cool kids play).

Sunday was our day to do the dragon cruise!  It’s a 2.5 hour ride off the southern point of Singapore that includes stops at some of the other smaller islands off the coast.  Well, this little blog writer went and spilled a cup of freshly, boiling water on her hand and suffered some seriously painful burns.  (Don’t worry mom, I’m fine and doing better now thanks to Doctor Niles).  Unfortunately, I wasn’t going to make it on the cruise and our team decided to skip it and soak up the beautiful Singapore sunshine by the pool instead.  Of course being in Singapore when it’s sunny means that everyone takes cover as if it’s down pouring so we had the pool mostly to ourselves.  Nothing like laying in the sun, reading, and cooling off in the pool for an afternoon!

Crafting hundreds of yummy steamed dumplings!

Dinner was more Chinese dim sum (I’ve become obsessed with steamed dumplings) and a walk around the Bedok mall.  Now it’s back to the grind at work.  Of course it’s always easier to start the week when come Friday you’ll be sitting on a beach in Bali :)
