Something to Celebrate

Happy Birthday to this guy!

Friday was Ethan’s birthday!  To celebrate we met up with Singaporeans Melissa and Glenn at Hood bar in Bugis +.  Ethan and I hadn’t had dinner but were more in a munching, snack type mood so we shared bacon potato croquettes and truffle fries, yum!  Glenn ordered some fried calamari which was good, though I was skeptical of the moving dried fish pieces on top of it.  Lucky for us the bar had a happy hour special where pints were $10!!  So cheap to find here in Singapore, and I wish I was joking that seeing $10 pints of beer really makes me think I’m getting a bargain.  No joking-laaaaa.

We had planned to only stay for a short while at Hood but the live 90’s music and the happy hour prices had us hooked.  And it sure was a good thing we stayed.  Another band came on a bit later and Melissa sent up a request making note that it was Ethan’s birthday.  They asked everyone with a birthday to come up on stage (but the person named Orange was too shy to, yes a person named Orange).  Each person was then handed a bright blue drink called an “adios beep beep”  not really beep beep but I’m trying to keep this post PG so you can insert what the real words are in your own head.  Lucky for Ethan he got to have Orange’s drink which meant that Ethan was having quite the night!

Ready to have his free birthday drink

After listening to some more 90’s hits and singing our hearts out, we headed for Marina Bay Sands.  Advice for others looking to get the Ku De Ta experience while not emptying out their wallet (completely at least), go up to the bar not the club.  The view is incredible, the drinks are nice (and expensive), but you can go up there without paying the cover charge of the raging night club portion.  Although don’t expect to sit down.  I asked a man if we could and he said “yes, with a $500 minimum spend.”  I looked at him and replied, “well that’s a lot of money!”  “Yes, ma’am it is.”  And we made our way to the bar.

After some great pictures and tasty drinks, we decided it was time to make our way back home.  I hope your Singapore birthday was all that you wished for Ethan!

A happy birthday shout out to my older brother, Mark today Oct 13th!  And of course don't forget to check out PubGearUSA.com!
